GLOBAL CHURCH & WORLD ISSUES
We are very grateful to Pastor Chuck Fluegel who provides us with the information on Global Information.  This section is a continued work in progress as we make sure the information remains updated and pertinent to your ministry.

The COMPANION SYNOD/ GLOBAL MISSION TASK FORCE  is a  “grass-root”  Task force effort by various congregations and individuals—all volunteers. These volunteers have agreed to serve as communicators and liaisons. However, all our meetings are open and other interested people attend. We meet 5-6 times a year in various churches, our camps or synod office in Appleton. We welcome you and others to join us as we encourage our Companion Synod relationship and Global Mission of ELCA. If you would like to contact anyone on the list  click here.

ELCA Malaria Campaign Malaria puts 3.3 billion people at risk. 89% of the deaths are in Africa. 88% of the victims are kids under fire. How does the Christian community reconcile innocent children deaths?
World Hunger Undernutrition The chronically undernourished have recently topped one billion people. Where are they and what are the strategies that will help us solve this world problem.
TB Tuberculosis is a highly contagious communicable disease. People who live close quarters such as in prisons or slums are easy targets if the bacteria is present. Under nourished and disease compromised immune systems increase your chances of catching it as well.
Refugees The total refugees on the run at the end 2009 was 43.3 million broken  hearts. This includes 15.2 million refugees outside of their country of birth, and 27.1 million  Internally Displaced People (IDP's) forcibly displaced within their national borders. Whether you are a refugee or an IDP, life is extremely harsh. Even if you are in a refugee camp, life is insecure and brutal. They are rarely
protected by compassionate policemen. There are regular incursions of rebels or militia at many sites. Lutheran World Federation and some other voluntary agencies are the management muscle and heart for most UNHCR camps. LWF is busy with refugees in DR Congo, Darfur, Chad, Kenya and more countries.
ECSW Global Connections The East Central Synod of Wisconsin continues to be involved Globally through our Companion Synod Relationship with the Western Diocese in South Africa and our relationship with Transylvania, Romania.
ELCA Global Mission The ELCA maintains many different relationships around the world.
