Supply Preaching

This list includes people willing to fill in and provide preaching and worship leadership.

Synod Staff Preaching Requests

Preaching requests may be made by emailing ecsw@ecsw.org.

  • Expectations of Congregation:

    • Synod staff members should not be paid for supply preaching or mileage. They are available at no cost to your congregation although a gift may be made to the synod.

    • All worship materials including preaching texts, worship liturgies, and bulletins should be provided to the staff member preaching no later than two weeks in advance of the preaching date. The worship materials should include all parts of the service and make clear which parts of the service the synod staff member is responsible for leading.

    • A printed copy of the worship service will be prepared and printed by the host congregation in a binder and available on site prior to the start of worship.

    • Please provide the name and phone number of contact person (other than the pastor) who will have their cell phone on and be on the lookout for the synod staff person on the day of the visit/event. This person can provide directions if staff members get lost, be the person they call if they get sick or hit a deer, greet them when they arrive and provide help and hospitality for synod staff as guests and newcomers to your congregation and area.

  • Other Considerations

    • Synod staff may need to adjust to be available virtually or may send a manuscript of sermon to be shared if they are ill or it is not safe for them to travel due to weather.

    • Synod staff and bishop’s calendars are typically scheduling out at least six months in advance.

Synod Sermon for October 15, 2023

Pastor Jenn Pockat, Associate to the Bishop, Director for Communication and Community shares a sermon manuscript or video that may be shared in congregations of the East Central Synod of Wisconsin.

Pastor Jenn’s sermon is based on three of the designated readings for Lectionary 28A with primary focus on the gospel text, Matthew 22:1-14. The following readings are suggested:

* The lectionary for the weekend includes texts that name both exile and destruction of people and places in the Holy Land. Great care should be used when reading these lections as we hold in prayer the people who are victims of violence and war all over the world, but especially in Palestine and Israel. May the God of Peace bring comfort, healing, and resolve in the name of Christ.
