Worship Resources for an Election season

A national election impacts our corporate wellbeing and reminds us to lean into the promises of God: life, healing, and wholeness through Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 invites us to prayer at all times, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Continual prayer through this season of national discernment is a way we can care for one another during an anxious and contentious time. The following resources include preaching prompts, liturgies, and hymn and scripture suggestions that give voice to anxiety, call us toward justice and civic engagement, and remind us where our true hope is found.

Included in these resources are the worship leader guides from the most recent Conference of Bishops meeting. Region 5 Bishops planned and led worship, integrating many of these resources. We share them here as a way of showing how some of these resources can be interwoven through the liturgy you’ve already planned to share.

Our ministry partner, the Wisconsin Council of Churches, has also curated worship resources for preaching and leading in an election season. Their work includes liturgy and prayers, preaching prompts, and children and youth activities.
